We helped The Fostering Network turn the complex and emotional aspects of fostering into clear, engaging narratives.

The Fostering Network approached us with a powerful brief: to help bring the lived experiences of care-experienced young people to the forefront of their Fostering Wellbeing initiative through motion design.

As the UK’s leading fostering charity, their mission was clear—create meaningful, emotional, and educational content that leaves the audience with a better understanding of how to support care-experienced children and young people.

The Challenge

The Fostering Network, a UK-based charity supporting foster carers, faced a challenge in communicating the complexities of the fostering journey. Their existing materials were often text-heavy and lacked emotional engagement, making it difficult to convey the depth and importance of fostering to potential carers and the wider public. The charity needed a convincing way to illustrate the fostering experience, highlight the emotional rewards, and encourage more individuals to consider fostering.

The Solution

We worked closely with The Fostering Network to develop a motion design approach that would resonate with the audience. This involved creating a series of animated videos depicting real-life scenarios faced by foster carers, using storytelling to highlight both the challenges and rewards of fostering. We employed a warm, inviting visual style with hand-drawn illustrations and a soft colour palette to evoke empathy and connection. The animations were designed to be informative yet emotionally engaging, inspiring viewers to take action and learn more about fostering opportunities.

The Outcome

The motion design campaign helped bring the fostering experience to life in a way that was engaging and relatable. The videos were well-received across multiple platforms, including social media and the charity's website, providing audiences with a clear and emotionally resonant view of fostering. Our process began with an idea to give the animations an authentic voice by recording real care-experienced young people. We invited them to our studio and worked with them to record a selection of lines based on a script we developed in collaboration with The Fostering Network. This not only brought honesty and emotion to the voiceover but also informed the visual direction.

We took photographs of the young people during the session, which our design team used as reference to develop the characters. The final character set was loosely based on the real individuals, giving the animations a sense of realism and connection while maintaining a warm, approachable illustrative style.

Once the artwork for the animations was complete, it was handed to our motion designers to bring the stories to life. They layered in animation, transitions and timing to reflect the rhythm and tone of the voiceover, ensuring that the characters and narratives felt engaging and emotionally resonant. Every motion decision, from pacing to composition, was guided by the goal of making the fostering experience clear, relatable and impactful for viewers.
